Pity poor George

Poor George. He had to make a statement on the election, and it was through clenched teeth that he acknowledged a Democratic victory.
He spent much more time talking about McCain than Obama, but indicated that he was looking forward to having Barack stop by so he could tell him how to run the country.
You could tell that it was horribly agonizing to have to make a speech without using the word "terrorism". (He came close though, when he said that the government's main job was to "protect its people")
Bush said that he and his family will be leaving the White House with many cherished memories. But of what? I wonder... What event in those 8 years can he remember with pride? He has squandered the resources of America in every way he could and set his own party back years. As Colin Powell remarked today, the Republicans are going to have to go through a period of reflection on what their values and goals should be.

But hey, there's hope! Sarah Palin this morning didn't rule out running in 2012!!
Comments:
I am a moderate, but usually on the right side of the fence for gun rights, economic responsibility and foreign affairs. That side has been screwing up a lot lately though. Too bad. I always liked McCain (but wtf was the idea of Pain as a VP?). I am glad Obama won. The world wanted him and we need that!

Happy to know ypu'll be flying your flag proudly again! It's a good day, a very good day!

Just because you belong to a different political party than the current president, that doesn't give you the right to piss on George Bush and his family after he has worked and worried for the last eight years about this country, starting with the tragedy of 9/11. I was here in New York on that day, Vailian, and even though I'm a Democrat I appreciate the resolve and leadership that he showed during those really tough times.

Every president, no matter what you think about their politics, deserves our respect. And, as it turned out, George Bush was correct in standing firm with Petraeus and the surge. Today the insurgency in Iraq has been defeated and the country has a chance at becoming a representative democracy. Even Obama admitted that the surge was a success beyond his wildest expectations. In fact, it was such a success that it never was a live issue during the just-finished presidential election.

I think his cherished memories might be more personal ones...like all the fun times at Camp David and enjoying the luxury of Air Force One and remember the Mission Accomplished trip on the Navy Ship? Those were probably cherished.
